Yes, if the existing floor is completely sound, flat, and well-bonded. We use a special primer and heavy-duty adhesive for tile-on-tile installations. However, this will raise your floor height by about 12-15mm, requiring doors to be trimmed.
Large-format porcelain (e.g., 60x120cm or 80x80cm) is currently the most popular choice. It is highly durable, scratch-resistant, cool underfoot, and the large size means fewer grout lines for a cleaner, modern look.
A hollow sound occurs when there are air pockets under the tile. We prevent this by properly back-buttering the tiles and combing the adhesive on the floor with the correct trowel, ensuring full contact.
